Dog Too Sick To Sit Is Given A Final Ride Around Town, Makes A Miraculous Recovery

When Joey Maxwell and his wife first saw Maverick, he was at a kill shelter and was all skin and bones. They adopted him, and Mav became a member of their family, with whom they spent six happy years.

So when a few years ago the doggie was diagnosed with lymphoma, Maxwell did everything to help his four-legged friend fight cancer- and the first round of chemo was a success. However, the illness returned two months ago, rendering him unable to walk.

So the owner decided to take the doggie on a wagon ride. What started as an attempt to make Mav’s final days as happy as possible turned out to have a huge impact on the doggie’s health.

“When we take him out, he barks at everyone who walks by until they pet him because he thinks the entire world is there to love on him,” Maxwell told CBS News.

And he might be right. The outpour of love and support Maxwell and his dog receive is incredible. For example, after telling his story, Maxwell received a 50% wagon discount, and both he and the Lowe’s cashier started to cry. People in Maxwell’s small town recognize Maverick now and come up to him to show him some love.

Mav absolutely loves those rides. And perhaps this is why the pooch is getting stronger by the day.

“We’re in a good place because we know how much Mav means to so many other people now and we know that he has felt every bit of that in return.”

Maverick is feeling the loving vibes: now he is even able to sit on his own and is getting stronger every day!
