Dying dog has first ever McDonald’s as heartbreaking last meal on earth

A touching video of an owner’s final hours with her dog before he was put down has gone viral.

Ellie Buckler, 21, of Blackpool, wanted to give Baxter the Shar Pei a memorable send-off, so she planned for him to enjoy special treats such as chocolate, McDonald’s, and a cup of tea.

‘He was 12 years old, and he had started to really struggle with walking and breathing,’ Ellie explains in the caption of her TikTok video, which has over 11 million views.

‘He was on a lot of painkillers, and it wasn’t fair to watch him suffer any longer; it would have been selfish of us to let him continue in that condition.’

‘He’d never eaten a McDs [McDonald’s] or chocolate before, and he’d only been able to have dry food for the past few months, so we thought we’d let him have all the nice things.’

Ellie went on to say that deciding to put him down was the “hardest decision of their lives,” but it was also the “kindest thing to do.”

 

Baxter’s day started with his first McDonald’s breakfast, followed by a leisurely stroll to the store to purchase a packet of ham.

 

Ellie lavished her dog with hugs and cuddles as he sat on the floor. Their other dog curled up next to Baxter.

Before the family had to say good-by, the much-loved pet was given a bite of chocolate and a few sips of tea.

The post was met with an outpouring of support from viewers. ‘It’s horrible when you lose your dog, when I think about mine now I still have a tear in my eye hope you’re okay,’ one wrote.

‘Wow, this broke my heart,’ said another. I lost one of my pugs about a week ago and am still struggling.’

‘I’m dreading the day this happens to me, my dog is my world,’ said a third.
