A sad bear sat alone in a rusted cage for 30 years, but her reaction when she is set free is incredible.
Fifi, a bear cub from Pennsylvania, arrived at a roadside zoo more than 30 years ago. She and other bears had to perform perplexing tricks, such as standing on their hind legs, for years. Fifi languished in a tiny, rusted cage that contained nothing but a dilapidated doghouse for shelter after the roadside zoo closed its doors more than 20 years ago.
Fifi was frail, her coat was dull and filthy, and she had untreated arthritis that was causing her pain. Every step was an uphill battle. PETA and The Wild Animal Sanctuary rescued her in July 2015. She was transported to a facility in Colorado, where she was finally given the attention and space she deserved.
Fifi’s body has finally caught up to her big and beautiful personality after only five months at the sanctuary. She’s in good health, has a thick coat, and her legs are getting stronger by the day. Fifi is hibernating in her new, cozy den for the first time in her long life this year.
