The remarkable footage captured by security cameras show how one hero catches a dog as it spirals toward the ground at an alarming speed. In the city of Ribeirao Preto in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, Joao Augusto noticed a small dog on the balcony of another flat.

The Shih Tzu named Mel was teetering on the edge of his balcony. Something inside Augusto told him that the little dog was going to fall. He was right. Mel ʟᴏsᴛ his footing and started his ᴅᴇᴀᴅʟʏ fall from the 9th floor.

He raced inside the complex. He may have been a stranger, but the caretaker let him in anyway. Augusto positioned himself beneath the balcony as the caretaker went up to the apartment to see if the owner could be reached. Unfortunately, no one was home.

Augusto carefully positioned himself where he thought that the dog might land if it fell. The dog plummeted from the balcony. He held his arms up and rocked back and forth trying to be in the exact spot that he needed to be. He knew that he only had one chance to Sᴀᴠᴇ the dog, and he wanted to make it count.

“I asked for a towel or a sheet to help in some way, but there wasn’t enough time,” Augusto said. “Then, she fell from the ninth floor. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to catch her but I was aware that I could cushion the fall.”

The brave man has dramatically managed to catch the helpless dog into his arms. Despite falling from over 100ft, the pup has surprisingly ᴇsᴄᴀᴘᴇᴅ without any scratch.

“I was on the floor for a few seconds but it was from relief,” the hero said.”I think that I was in the right place at the right time. I did what I could, the most I could to help. It was a joint effort with the caretaker who acted quickly to help the dog. It was a happy ending.”

The dog’s owner on the other hand had a little sᴄᴀʀᴇ. But shortly after, he put some protective net on his balcony. Now, his lucky dog can safely admire the view from their 9th floor balcony.
